About us

Our Vision

We are passionate about children’s well being and we are on a mission to share all of our knowledge about activity, nutrition and mental health.

We have been working in schools and nurseries for over 15 years and we have seen the destructive power that poor diet, lack of exercise and stress can do to children’s health. We thought wouldn’t it be great if we could share our knowledge so that kids everywhere can benefit from being healthier, happier and more productive.

“It’s what you do, what you eat and how you feel.”

Alice

Co-Founder

Alice is a founder of Learn Happie and also runs leading children’s sports coaching company, SportSkool. She is an ardent supporter of using sports and complementary teaching techniques to instil healthy attitudes and behaviours in primary school age children.

Aware that traditional sports delivery in schools can be one dimensional, often focused on activity alone, Alice and her co-founder (and husband) Tom, developed Learn Happie with a view to delivering a more holistic approach to inspiring health and wellbeing in primary school children. Alice’s passion for and experience of

dance was instrumental in this. A keen dancer from the age of 2 years old, Alice has experienced first-hand the health benefits of bringing together physical activity, mindfulness and good diet.

She is qualified in performing arts and musical theatre and has previously set up and managed children’s music and dance company, Baby Beats.

“As a dance teacher you spend a lot of time focusing on ‘the core’. Over the years I have come to realise that this is not just your physical strength and stability but also mental strength and stability.”

Alice’s healthy tip: Plan meals ahead of time to avoid quick fixes and always offer children a healthy choice of snack.

Alice’s fun fact: When I was younger I travelled the world with my singing Dad and auditioned for the part of Hermione Granger in the first Harry Potter movie.

Tom

Co-Founder

Tom is co- founder of Learn Happie and also jointly manages successful children’s sports coaching company, SportSkool. He has a high-level background in team sports, playing 1st team rugby for Loughborough University, captaining Loughborough sailing team and being a member of the GBR sailing team in 2004. Tom was instrumental in the development, co-ordination and delivery of the pilot year of National Citizen Service for the Norfolk region for Norwich City Football Club.

Having worked in the industry since 2005, Tom is a passionate advocate of the huge social benefits of children’s sports and has participated in numerous sporting fundraisers for mental health charities.

The creation of Learn Happie is the culmination of years of experience working with children and observing the beneficial effects derived from diverse activity programmes.

“The benefits of children’s sport and activity are almost endless. Beyond physical benefits there are social benefits like improved communication and self-confidence. Plus… exercise is an excellent tool for combating mental health issues.”

Tom’s healthy tip: Build more movement into your day by walking to work or school, taking a walk on your lunch break, or doing a high intensity workout at home. Every little bit helps when it comes to fitness and you can make it easier for yourself by building it into your day.

Tom’s fun fact: I have been a sailing national champion on two occasions!
